1. Getting Started & Setup

Linely is designed to be lightweight, instant, and privacy-preserving. You can start checking train arrivals immediately without creating an account.

Install the App

Download Linely from the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android. Open the app to view the interactive live map of Klang Valley rail lines.

Grant Location Access (Optional)

When prompted, enable "While Using the App" location access. Linely uses your coordinates locally to sort the nearest MRT, LRT, and bus stops within 500 meters.

Optional Cloud Sync

Sign in with email OTP or Google to automatically back up your saved stations, custom routes, and notification preferences across devices.

Pro tip: Linely works 100% in guest mode. An account is only needed if you want automatic multi-device sync for your saved stops.

2. Open GTFS Data Sources

Linely powers its real-time arrivals and route engine using open General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) feeds published by transport authorities and open data initiatives.

  • Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (RapidKL): MRT Kajang Line, MRT Putrajaya Line, LRT Kelana Jaya, LRT Ampang, LRT Sri Petaling, KL Monorail, and BRT Sunway Line.
  • Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB): KTM Komuter Seremban Line, KTM Port Klang Line, and ETS Intercity Railway.
  • OpenDOSM: Curated public transit schedule feeds published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International.

3. Live Arrivals & Countdowns

The home screen displays a dynamic live feed of upcoming train and bus arrivals based on your location and selected station.

Understanding the Live Countdown

Arrival countdowns are computed in real time on your device down to the second. The timer ticks live so you know exactly when to walk to the platform:

  • Arriving now (under 30s): The train has entered the station platform area.
  • Countdown timer (e.g. 3 min 40s): Estimated time until the scheduled service arrival.
  • Headways: Expected service frequency during peak and off-peak operating hours.

Nearby Bus Stops (500m radius)

When zooming in on the map, feeder bus stops within 500 meters are displayed as subtle dots. Tapping any stop reveals upcoming bus routes and schedules.

4. Offline Dijkstra Trip Planner

Linely features an offline-capable rail routing engine powered by Dijkstra shortest-path graph algorithms. The entire transit graph of Kuala Lumpur is embedded directly inside the app.

Three Routing Modes

Fastest Route (Default)

Minimizes overall travel time by calculating exact in-vehicle durations and rapid interchange connections.

Balanced Route

Applies a 10-minute transfer penalty to avoid unnecessary line switches unless substantial time is saved.

Fewest Transfers

Applies a 30-minute transfer penalty to favor single-line direct journeys for effortless travel.

Underground routing: Because the routing graph is fully client-side, the trip planner continues to work even without an active internet connection underground.

5. ETS Train Schedule Tracker Beta

Linely includes a dedicated tracker for KTM Electric Train Service (ETS) intercity routes connecting Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, Butterworth, Padang Besar, and Gemas.

  • Station departure boards: View upcoming ETS train numbers (e.g. EG9022, EP9120) and departure times.
  • Itinerary timeline: Browse all intermediate stop schedules along the north-south railway corridor.
  • Booking shortcut: Direct link to official ticketing portals for seat reservation.
Beta notice: The ETS schedule tracker is currently in public beta. While GTFS timetable data is updated regularly, please refer to KTM station displays for real-time gate announcements and operational adjustments.

6. Saved Stops & Cloud Sync

Customize Linely to match your daily commute routine:

  • Bookmark stations: Tap the bookmark icon on any station detail sheet to pin it to your favorites tab.
  • Custom route pins: Save frequently traveled origin-destination pairs (e.g., Home to Office) for one-tap trip planning.
  • Automatic sync: All bookmarks and preferences sync silently to your cloud profile so you never lose your commute setup when switching phones.

7. Alerts, Notifications & Preferences

Tailor your commute notifications and sensory preferences in the profile tab:

  • Service disruptions: Receive push notifications when RapidKL or KTMB issues delay or maintenance alerts.
  • Alert sounds: Enable subtle chime audio cues when live countdowns reach your departure threshold.
  • Voice guidance: Audio announcements for upcoming transfer stations during your commute.
  • Haptic feedback: Tactile micro-vibrations for station selection, toggle switches, and routing results.
  • Appearance: Choose light mode, dark mode, or follow system appearance.

8. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Linely work without internet?

Yes. The trip planner and static station timetables are stored locally in the app, allowing full Dijkstra rail routing even underground. Live real-time countdown updates resume once you reconnect to mobile data.

How often is schedule data refreshed?

GTFS schedule feeds from Prasarana and KTMB are ingested and synchronized weekly to capture latest service adjustments, special holiday timetables, and station updates.

Does Linely drain my battery with background GPS?

No. Linely only requests location while the app is actively on screen to find nearby stops, and turns off location sensors as soon as you switch away.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account and all associated saved stops anytime from the profile tab via the "Delete Account" button. Your data is purged immediately and irreversibly.

9. Privacy & Permissions

Linely is built with a strict privacy-first architecture. We believe transit tools should help you commute without collecting your personal life:

  • Location privacy: Your precise coordinates never leave your device. Location data is never logged, sold, or shared with advertisers.
  • Zero third-party trackers: No marketing tracking pixels or ad network telemetry are bundled in the app.
